  11. I purchased a Motorola 28.8 Lifestyle about a 
  12. month ago. It replaced a Netcomm M7F. Since 
  13. installing the modem I have had nothing but
  14. problems, these problems were not present
  15. before. There is no line problem as
  16. both the Telco and the Remote tests show
  17. no line noise problems.

  19. The main problems consist of the inability
  20. to connect, once connected the modem appears
  21. to be fine.

  23. Is anyone else having problems with these modems
  24. or is it just me, it is not this particular modem
  25. as I have already exchanged it with absolutely
  26. identical results.

  28. I regularly connect to three different
  29. services:
  30.  
  31. work:    14.4 Netcomm M7F V42/V42bis
  32. ISP:    28.8 Avtek V42/V42bis
  33. Fax:    mostly incoming
  34.  
  35. Problems:
  36.     o After conecting to the 14,400 the next call to
  37.       either a fax of the 28.8 will fail with an ATI5 of
  38.       "CONNECT TIMEOUT"
  39.  
  40.     o People are finding it almost impossible to send
  41.       me faxes. Winfax Pro reports an error of 70 which is
  42.       'Modem Error setting data rate' or the other end
  43.       gets various errors. When they do manage to get
  44.       through it is always at 4800 not 9600/14400.
  45.  
  46.     o The only time I can get reliable connections is
  47.       the first time after a power up. From then onwards
  48.       connection rate is about 50% but the first connection
  49.       AFTER a 14400 connection will always fail!

  51. I am at the point of returning this !@##$$%^& as it
  52. is not only incredibly frustrating but is also
  53. costing me heaps in failed phone calls. Any and
  54. all help appreciated.
